Purpose
To connect indigenous together globally for shared economic and social outcomes that lead to economic independence and wellbeing.
Approach
tiaki uses Infrastructure, Education and Employment as a platform for indigenous collaboration and development. As new points on the global network come online, they access and can contribute to existing network resource.
Status
Currently engaged in New Zealand, Australia, Tonga and Canada. Moving across the Pacific in 2023.
Education: Māori-led Technology Internship
Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Hoani Waititi Marae (Auckland) ran a pilot of the School and Internship programme in 2022. Students gained foundation and entry-level industry certification that puts them on a pathway to fulltime technology employment.
Microsoft have formally endorsed the programme and it will grow into other New Zealand schools in 2023.
Employment: Enterprise Managed Services
The Kalinda tiaki Foundation office in Sydney hosts a fulltime paid cadetship programme for indigenous school leavers. Participants are trained in Microsoft, CompTIA and ITIL industry certification while building a working knowledge of enterprise level managed services.
Participants provide remote technical support to customers and future ‘boots on the ground’ for Datacentre and Edge facilities (e.g. Toowoomba Datacentre).
Infrastructure: Sovereign Datacentre and Technology Hub
Groundwork is being laid for the first indigenous sovereign Datacentre and Technology Hub in Tonga that addresses economic isolation, dependency on foreign aid and resilience against external shocks (e.g. pandemic or natural disaster).
Endorsed by the Tonga Chamber of Commerce and partnering with Hohomo (Limited), this programme will deliver a number of indigenous technology world firsts.
Education and Employment with YLP
With an office in Calgary, an agreement in place with YLP First Nations to launch the Education and Employment programme into Canada. This will create a global pipeline of indigenous capability into technology employment readying for the Infrastructure programme that follows.
